Produce, produce, produce: in a factory optimizing production is the most important aspect. But to do it profitably and promptly it is fundamental to be able to communicate effectively. A company must communicate with its clients and with all the outside agents with whom it interfaces. This is a given but not enough.

Too often internal communication - that is among all the workers of a company - is taken for granted even though it is one of the principal aspects to be addressed in order to promote speed, effectiveness and therefore the efficiency of the processes. Even digital innovation, which in the factory is translated with the term Industry 4.0, needs better communication or rather enables or must be enabled by new, simple and flexible communication tools.

To favor dialog and exchange of information in production environments, it is important above all to consider these three points.

Choose the right way to communicate

There are various tools that allow one to one communication and one to many within plants and new solutions are created every day on this topic. The tools always go through a focal point: the use of mobile devices and instant messaging apps.

In production settings, the exchange of information instantly permits the speeding up of processes, improving quality and considerably reducing the time and frequency of periods of downtime and, consequently, the delivery times of the products. A very interesting prospect, already being practiced by the most proactive companies, is the creation of virtual workplaces, in which various individuals - and therefore various roles - can meet and exchange data/files/information in a secure and organized manner.

Continuous feedback and encounters

Today we increasingly tend to favor encounters between individuals with different roles, experiences, and responsibilities, precisely because we have understood the importance of having different points of view converge, especially in the presence of complex and potentially problematic situations. In a production environment, the more executive workers, who come into direct contact with the machinery, are the first to note the operational problems in the daily tasks. Because of this, it is fundamental that meetings be promoted, also by conducting surveys or questionnaires.

During the performance of the work, communication can be shared at all levels thanks to those solutions that permit interacting freely and in real time on the problems and the activities, combining in the same conversation workers with various roles and of different levels.

Improve the training phase

When a person starts a new job, they need to receive and assimilate a lot of information. It, therefore, becomes fundamental to not only organize an effective training system but to also identify the tools that are most suitable for conveying materials such as guidelines and documents. To simplify the training phase, for example, the establishment of a tutor may become useful again, in other words, a figure to whom the training of the new hire is assigned.

The work of the tutor can also be assisted by messaging apps and/or Enterprise Collaboration, in which, for example, the new employee can find all the materials (guidelines, tutorials, manuals, etc....) necessary to perform his job.

4.0 Communication

To transform one’s company according to an Industry 4.0 logic, in other words, a digitized production environment means not only striving for faster and more efficient production, but also for better internal communication among the personnel. To do this, it is necessary to rely on tools that permit a secure, fast and organized dialog also remotely and which guarantee 360 degree visibility on the process.

The improvement in communication through these new tools permits, among other things, also the collection of new data. This means having more information on how employees work and the problems of the production process, so a more in-depth analysis can be conducted to identify any bottlenecks.
